The definitive assembly for larger councils in 2008 The Hotel Russell, London – Thursday 20 and Friday 21 November, 2008 Come to Place Matters – the event in the town and parish sector for Autumn, 2008! This exciting event is for anyone connected with town and parish councils who wants up to date information on the implications of the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act, 2007 and the Communities In Control White Paper, 2008 – for them. This in-depth event will look at almost every current issue relevant to the town and parish sector from how to create a low carbon programme for your council, to why performance management should matter to your council. This event will strengthen your arm when it comes to creating and developing policies for your council. The Director General for Communities will speak on the theme of Why Places and Local Councils Matter, there be a keynote case study on planning, another on Wellbeing, a session on local innovation and neighbourhood councils, a Local Channel Drop In session, a presentation on the relevance of Continuous Professional Development, a panel session on Clustering, spotlight sessions on charters and community cohesion, a Drinks Reception and Dinner – all on the first day! On Day Two there will be the NALC Larger Local Councils’ Committee hustings, a Great Debate on Councillors needing a Quality Kite-mark, a surgery session on performance management, a good practice case study session on the Cornwall Unitary, more spotlight sessions on parish planning and the Severn-Wye Energy Initiative and a final good practice session on larger councils’ partnerships.
