Following the overwhelming success of the 2008 pilot NALC Leadership event in November we are exited to announce our official 2009 NALC Leadership Academy (supported by the IDeA), which is the only national course of its kind aimed specifically at the Parish and Town Council sector.

The course is designed to:

• Increase your knowledge of personal and organisation leadership theory
• Develop your understanding of how these can be applied to your work as a Parish or Town Councillor
• Enable you to develop skills in action planning for your community
• Broaden your perspective of the role of the sector has to play in the wider government empowerment and democracy agendas
• Encourage networking with other like minded leaders across the sector, learning lessons and sharing best practice

How the course works

The course is residential, run over three days, commencing on the evening of Tuesday 15 September with a welcome dinner. Sessions begin on the morning of 16 September. There will be some pre-course work to complete but this will be kept to a minimum and sent to you along with your full joining instructions. We strongly recommend you complete the pre-course work in order that you gain the most from the event.

The core of the programme features leadership models and theories. The core days will be broken up into different styles of delivery, these will include:

• Ice breakers and energisers
• Group work
• Plenary
• Round table questions for debate
• Case study analysis
• Presentations (speakers and delegates)
