The National Association of Local Councils (NALC) is calling for local councils to get involved in Keep Britain Tidy’s campaign, The Great British Spring Clean, which is taking place on 1 – 2 March 2018.

The campaign has a simple aim: to bring people across the country together to clear up the litter that blights our towns, villages, countryside and beaches.

NALC wants to work with Keep Britain Tidy to inspire thousands of people to get outdoors, get active and help clear up the rubbish that lies around their communities.

But this is just the beginning to tackling the issue. Local councils must help change behaviour in their communities and find long-term solutions.

Cllr Sue Baxter, chairman of NALC, said: “I would welcome local councils to get involved in The Great British Spring Clean – whether promoting the event within their local council, encouraging their wider networks to participate, or by joining a local litter pick themselves. Together we can help improve the quality of our streets and public spaces and create a cleaner, tidier Britain.”
