NALC calls on ministers to support the House of Lords Committee Land Use report recommendations

RURAL

The National Association of Local Councils (NALC) has joined civil society leaders to call on ministers to support the main recommendations of the House of Lords Committee Land Use report.

To coincide with the publication of the House of Lords Committee on Land Use's Making the most out of England's land report. NALC, alongside other civil society organisations representing the environment, housing, heritage, farming, and the countryside, has written to five government ministers to support the report's main recommendations. These include the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), HM Treasury, the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) and the Department for Transport.

To deliver better public value and optimise the multi-functional use of finite and precious land. The letter highlights the need for a Land Use Framework for England to be genuinely cross-government and cross-issue, to facilitate local community and business engagement, and to bring together, and make more accessible data to support better land use decisions.

The letter was co-signed by NALC, Food, Farming and Countryside Commission, National Trust, Association of Directors of Environment, Economy, Planning & Transport, Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, English Rural, The Wildlife Trusts, Nature Friendly Farming Network, Nature-Positive Innovation Commission, Digital Task Force for Planning, Campaign to Protect Rural England, The Rural Coalition, Sustain, Soil Association and Shared Assets.

These organisations stand ready to help develop a framework, drawing on our extensive expertise and networks.
