The Civility and Respect Project supports Early Day Motion on strengthening the standards regime

civility

The Civility and Respect Project has backed a new Early Day Motion on intimidation in community, parish and town councils, tabled in parliament by Dr Julian Lewis MP.

The motion calls on the government to revisit its response to the Committee on Standards in Public Life report on local government ethical standards and introduce its recommendations in full, including tougher sanctions such as suspension for poorly behaving councillors.

Around 20 MPs have signed the motion. However, this number must increase. The more MPs that sign up, the more likely it will be discussed in parliament. The Civility and Respect Project urges local (parish and town) councils to support the motion by writing to their MPs to back it. The project has created editable template letters, which can be used to write to MPs.
