The president of the National Association of Local Councils (NALC), Baroness Scott of Needham Market, met in parliament with the faith and communities minister, Baroness Scott of Bybrook.

NALC’s president gave a speech at the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill’s second reading in the House of Lords. She spoke about the role of local (parish and town) councils in levelling up and highlighted several areas where the bill needs amending.

This meeting allowed NALC to inform the minister of the amendments, which cover topics including extending the general power of competence to all local councils, introducing a new sanction to suspend councillors, carer’s allowance, and the ability for ministers to pay a grant to local councils.
