Local councils successfully secure £4.5 million from the Community Ownership Fund
Local (parish and town) councils nationwide have again successfully secured around £4.5 million from the Community Ownership Funds.
Anston Parish Council (Kent), Borden Parish Council (Kent), Clun Town Council (Shropshire), Cranleigh Parish Council (Surrey), Great Braxted Parish Council (Essex), Mayfield & Five Ashes Parish Council (Sussex), Millbrook Parish Council (Cornwall), North Muskham Parish Council (Nottinghamshire), St Neots Town Council (Cambridgeshire), Weston-super-Mare Town Council (Somerset), and Wickersley Parish Council (Yorkshire) are the latest, of the 19 councils, to receive funding in the third round of the second window.
The fund aims to support local people in saving, developing, or restoring local community assets, such as libraries, town and village halls, pubs, nature reserves, and garden projects. Round three of the fund launched in May 2023. The funding will be opened in four windows. The third window is open and will close on 31 January 2024.
Cllr Keith Stevens, NALC chair, said, "It's brilliant that 19 community facilities have benefited from around £4.5m since the government opened this fund to parish and town councils. Our sector responded positively to this and was fast out of the blocks in applying. It demonstrates why NALC is campaigning for more national funds to be open to England's 10,000 parish and town councils".
