Local (parish and town councils) were honoured by the National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA) at an award ceremony recognising outstanding markets on 25 January 2024.

South Moulton Town Council (Devon) received top honours, winning the Best Community/Parish Market title for their remarkable stewardship of the South Moulton County Pannier Market, recognised as a hub for local service, support for charitable causes, and free community activities.

A market run jointly by Shrewsbury Town Council (Shropshire) and Shropshire Council retained its title as Britain's Best Market for the second year. The market, a testament to the collaborative efforts of the councils, has consistently excelled in offering a diverse and thriving marketplace for residents and tourists.

The list included Ross-on-Wye Town Council (Herefordshire) and Skipton Town Council (Yorkshire) for their outstanding contributions to the Ross-on-Wye Christmas Fayre and the Skipton Outdoor Market.

The markets were commended for their dedication and innovation in serving their local communities.

The NABMA awards highlight these councils' crucial role in creating vibrant market spaces.
