National Living Wage impact on local councils

The Government's National Living Wage (NLW) comes into force on 1 April 2016. It replaced the National Minimum Wage (NMW) for all workers aged 25 and over.

The NLW has initially been set at £7.20 per hour. The National Minimum Wage continues to apply to workers under the age of 25, for example in 2015/2016 workers aged 21 – 25 are still entitled to the NMW of £6.70.
