DATE AND TIME

14:00 – 15:00

WHERE

Macmillan Room, Houses of Parliament, London SW1A 2PW

ABOUT

The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Local Democracy recognises that local parish and town councils are an important part of our local democracy and communities, which we want to highlight and champion. Our work aims to raise the profile of this rapidly changing and growing first tier of local government which is putting communities in control of their areas.

Please join us for our next meeting which will consider De Montfort University's Councillors Commision report on the roles, powers, responsibilities, tasks, functions and experiences of the councillor. It will also consider the work of NALC's Diversity Commision looking at the current picture of parish and town councillors in terms of age, race, gender, and sexuality and how local councils can encourage more diversity and become more representative of the community they serve.

Speakers include:

  • Cllr Sue Baxter, NALC chairman
  • Sir David Amess MP, chairman of Conservative Party Diversity2Win
  • Professor Colin Copus and Rachel Wall, De Montfort University Local Government Research Unit
