Local Council Award Scheme off to a flying start

Over 500 local (parish and town) councils have already registered with the Local Council Award Scheme since its launch on 6 January 2015. We have been pleasantly surprised by the interest in the scheme so far and look forward to having even more registrations from councils across the country. This is strong testimony to Local Councils commitment to improving, pushing themselves to meet the challenges faced by the their communities and the whole local government family.

The 500th registration for the Award Scheme came from Antrobus Parish Council in Cheshire.

Cllr Ken Browse, chair of the National Association of Local Councils (NALC), said: “I am thrilled that so many local councils have already stepped up to be awarded within this scheme. It once again shows how important our councils feel about being community leaders, representatives and delivering local services. Furthermore we are happy that the whole of local government recognises the importance of the Local Council Award Scheme through the support of the Local Government Association and the Society of Local Council Clerks”

Councils who were accredited under the previous Quality Council Scheme have until 27 February 2015 to take up the offer of a free transfer to Foundation Level with an unbroken accreditation record. It is really quick and easy to register – simply complete the online form and you will be sent a confirmation email and information about your possible next steps within the award scheme.
