Updates from the Civility and Respect Project

The National Association of Local Councils (NALC) can report that good progress is being made with the Civility and Respect Project.

The cross-organisational workstream teams have been formed and are working hard to analyse some of the causes of bullying and harassment in the local (parish and town) council sector and to identify tools that will minimise opportunities for poor behaviour and provide support where it does happen.

One of the areas identified is the Local Government Association (LGA) Model Code of Conduct 2020 (updated May 2021), which was supported by both NALC and the Society of Local Council Clerks (SLCC), but has not yet been widely adopted. The model code has now been endorsed by the project team. Find out more about the code and for supporting guidance notes.

Look out for the project updates in the next edition of NALC's LCR magazine and SLCC's The Clerk magazine.
