Annual meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Local Democracy

APPG

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Local Democracy held its annual general meeting on 17 May 2022 in parliament.

The group re-elected Cherilyn Mackrory MP for Falmouth and Truro and Richard Holden MP for North West Durham as co-chairs. Baroness Ros Scott of Needham Market, the Earl of Lytton, and Karen Buck MP were re-elected as officers. Ian Levy MP for Blyth Valley joined as a new officer of the group.

The group discussed levelling up and the Queen’s Speech, and highlighted the creation of new local (parish and town) councils, funding, and planning as key areas of interest.

Over the next year, the group agreed to promote local councils in the context of the levelling up and bill, planning reforms, sector support and the upcoming parliamentary reception.

The group aims to champion local (parish and town councils) councils in parliament. The National Association of Local Councils (NALC) provides the secretariat to the group.
