This a rare and exciting opportunity to not just lead a brand-new town council but drive the setting up of it initially as Somerset transitions to a two-tier local government structure.   

Taunton Town Council will serve a population of over 50,000 residents. It will commence with a precept of £2.1m to manage a set of services and facilities that are transferring to it on vesting day in April 2023, with several more likely to be considered for transfer post that time.   

Working initially with officers from the outgoing principal authority to identify needs and requirements, the new postholder will then move to the new town council once created and lead it into the future. 

The potential to shape the county town of Taunton into a leading sector authority is huge, not just in Somerset but both regionally and nationally.   

Such opportunities rarely arise within the sector, but for the right candidate, the post will be hugely rewarding, a fabulous experience and truly exciting in equal measure.
