Dr Paul Behrens joins NALC’s climate emergency network meeting

CLIMATECHANGE

Dr Paul Behrens joins the National Association of Local Councils (NALC) as a guest speaker for the first National Network: Climate emergency meeting of the year on 14 February 2023.

He spoke on how rapid the changes we see as a consequence of climate change will only accelerate and that we should not overestimate our resilience to them. Dr Behrens highlighted to members of the network the savings that could be made by pushing towards net zero earlier, and he shared with members ways of engaging people on the issue of climate change.

The network also discussed the importance of the Community Energy Scheme and the challenges parishes face when developing relationships with local activists and community power groups. The next network meeting will take place on 4 May 2023.

Dr Behrens is an academic and author in environmental change at the University of Leiden. His research on food and energy systems, land use and climate change has appeared in scientific journals and media outlets such as The New York TimesNature SustainabilityNature Energy, and the BBC. In 2018, he was awarded Leiden University’s Discoverer of the Year.
