NALC pushes for stronger local government engagement with new parliament
The aim is to raise awareness of the critical role local (parish and town) councils play in addressing many of the nation's pressing challenges.
To facilitate this, NALC recently partnered with the UK’s Parliamentary Outreach Service to provide a comprehensive briefing to around 50 representatives from various county associations. The session focused on the work of Parliament and offered practical advice on how local councils could effectively promote their interests to MPs and parliamentary bodies.
NALC highlighted that local councils are uniquely positioned to contribute solutions to issues ranging from social care to environmental sustainability. By fostering close relationships with Parliament, councils can strengthen their voice in national policies.
The Parliamentary Outreach Service expressed its eagerness to hold similar events with community and county groups across the country, further supporting NALC's efforts to ensure the local government sector is heard nationwide.
This initiative aligns with NALC’s broader strategy to promote the work of local councils as vital players in addressing the country’s complex challenges.
