An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Crowborough Town Council as its responsible financial officer.
 
Located in the heart of the beautiful High Weald, Crowborough Town Council is a large, active council providing a wide range of services, including several recreation grounds, nature reserves, allotments and cemeteries for the benefit of the local community. 
 
As responsible financial officer, you will work at the council offices and report directly to the town clerk and provide professional financial leadership across the council. Key responsibilities include budget preparation and monitoring, financial reporting, managing accounts and payroll processes, VAT and insurance administration, risk management, preparing annual accounts, liaising with auditors, maintaining the asset register, and advising councillors on financial matters. 
 
We are looking for a qualified or part-qualified accountant, or an experienced finance professional with substantial senior accountancy experience. You will have excellent financial management, budgeting, and reporting skills; experience of year-end accounts and audit preparation; strong IT skills; and the ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and objectively. Knowledge of local government finance and experience as a responsible financial officer would be advantageous. 
 
The successful candidate will be a proactive team player with a strong customer focus, sound judgement, integrity, and the ability to work effectively within a politically sensitive environment. 
 
Location: Council Offices, Pine Grove, Crowborough, East Sussex TN6 1DH 
Hours: Monday to Thursday 9.00 am to 5.00 pm; Friday 9.00 am to 4.30 pm 
Closing Date: 29 September 2026, 12 noon 
Interview Date: 5 October 2026
