Southborough Town Council is a modern and proactive town. It offers a lot of services and manages allotments and a cemetery. The position of clerk is a comprehensive and demanding role.

The clerk will be the statutory proper officer of the council. The clerk will oversee the running of the council, including all its statutory, financial, operational and administrative functions. The clerk will be responsible for ensuring that the instructions of the council in connection with its function as a local authority are undertaken. The clerk will ensure that all the statutory functions of the council are met. The clerk is also responsible for the effective and efficient management of the council's staff and resources, including the management of council buildings, open spaces, and other facilities and assets. The clerk will be expected to advise the council on, and assist with the formulation of, policies in respect of the council's activities. The clerk will produce all the information required for making effective decisions and will constructively implement all council decisions with the support of the deputy clerk.
