About the role:
Yarm Town Council is a forward-thinking and energetic local authority committed to delivering excellent services to the local community. We are seeking a well-organised, reliable, and motivated individual to join us as clerk. The clerk plays a central role in supporting the council's administration and ensuring the efficient delivery of services. This hands-on position is ideal for someone with strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and a genuine interest in public service.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day administrative support for council services and functions.
- Organise council meetings, including preparing agendas, taking minutes, and supporting councillors with procedural matters.
- Manage council communications, including liaison with the press, website updates, and social media content.
- Maintain effective administrative systems and records.
- Support community engagement and communication with residents and stakeholders.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to the role.
Essential requirements:
- Experience in an administrative or office support role.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good IT, financial administration, and organisational skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Flexible and practical approach to work.
- Commitment to supporting local communities and public service.
Desirable requirements:
- Experience within local government, the public sector, or a community-focused environment.
- Willingness to achieve the Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA) within two years of appointment.

Hours and location:
- 30 hours per week.
- Monday to Friday (10 am to 4 pm).
- Based at Yarm Town Hall, High Street, Yarm, TS15 9AH.
- Evening attendance at council meetings and occasional weekend civic events will be required.
