This week, the National Association of Local Councils (NALC) urged the government to give local (parish and town) councils direct access to funding for the rollout of local electricity transmission infrastructure.

In NALC's response to the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) consultation on community benefits for electricity transmission network infrastructure, NALC urged the government that local councils should have direct access to all and any funding the government makes available for the rollout of local electricity transmission infrastructure.

NALC believes that improvements to the current regime could be made by facilitating community action to undertake small-scale projects themselves. And local councils should receive all and any funding for community benefits from electricity network creation.
