Clear Councils Insurance: Why we are sponsoring the Star Council Awards
Author: Simon Miller, schemes development director at Clear Councils Insurance
Every year, we see the hard work councils do nationwide, and 2026 has been no different. Despite the challenging climate and an ever-changing risk landscape, councils have continued to show care and commitment to their communities and deserve recognition for their efforts.
Clear Councils Insurance is proud to continue supporting the NALC Star Councils Awards as headline sponsors, an event that not only recognises excellence but also gives the sector an invaluable opportunity to come together.
Simon Miller, schemes development director, reflected on his first time at the awards: "The 2026 awards were my first experience of the event, and it was great to see how the awards bring together the whole community and recognise the dedication of all those who work tirelessly for their local communities. Hearing about the work young councillors have committed to their councils was particularly inspiring.
Insurance and risk management are among the many responsibilities clerks consider daily. Being part of these awards, and getting out and about at local council events, helps Clear keep abreast of the latest developments in constituencies and listen to your feedback so that we can continue to improve and develop our insurance offering."
Adam Williams, account executive, shared his excitement for the event: "As a dedicated insurance broker to the sector, I've spent the past year working closely with clerks and councils across the country, and what strikes me time and again is the sheer breadth of what they take on. One day it's a playground refurbishment; the next, a community event, a new asset, or a challenge nobody saw coming. Often with modest resources, but never with modest ambition. Finally meeting many of those clerks in person, in a room full of others just like them, is something I can't wait for.
What makes the Star Council Awards matter is that so much of this work happens without fanfare. Clerks, councillors and county associations rarely seek recognition, which is exactly why it's so important that we give it. Gathering at the House of Lords to celebrate their achievements feels like a fitting tribute to the difference they make at the heart of their communities. I'm looking forward to celebrating with the winners, putting faces to familiar names and coming away inspired, as I'm told everyone does."
From the whole team here at Clear Councils Insurance, best of luck with your submissions. We look forward to seeing you at the awards.
