NALC and SLCC reaffirm commitment to partnership and sector support

We have reaffirmed our commitment to working in close partnership with the Society of Local Council Clerks (SLCC), following a meeting between our respective chairs on 25 March 2026.

Our chair, Cllr Iain Hamilton and SLCC chair, Adam Keppel-Green, emphasised the importance of a strong, aligned partnership to support parish and town councils and the clerks who serve them. Central to this renewed focus is a commitment to more regular engagement between chairs and chief executives, alongside plans to introduce a refreshed partnership protocol.

Looking ahead, both organisations will work closely together at the upcoming Local Government Association Annual Conference. The event will see the launch of a major new report by the University of Birmingham exploring the evolving role of councillors and clerks in the 21st century, an important milestone for the sector.

The meeting also covered each organisation's ongoing strategic reviews and opportunities to strengthen sector-wide support, including through the civility and respect work. In addition, progress continues on the development of a revised job evaluation scheme.

Our continued collaboration reflects a shared ambition to ensure parish and town councils are well-equipped, supported and recognised for the vital role they play in communities across England.
