NALC stands strong on White Ribbon Day

White Ribbon Day, observed annually on 25 November, is a global initiative aimed at raising awareness about and combatting violence directed towards women. NALC, recognising the importance of addressing this pervasive issue, has proactively advocated for change within the local (parish and town) council sector.

To convey its commitment, NALC has produced a compelling video highlighting male support from the sector. This move aligns with NALC's status as a White Ribbon accredited organisation, a recognition of its dedication to challenging entrenched attitudes, systems, and behaviours surrounding masculinity that contribute to gender inequality and violence against women.

The video serves as a poignant reminder that addressing issues of violence against women requires collective action, with men playing a crucial role in reshaping societal norms. By actively participating in the White Ribbon campaign, NALC is contributing to the broader movement seeking to dismantle harmful stereotypes and promote a culture of respect and equality.

NALC chair, Cllr Keith Stevens, spoke passionately about the significance of supporting White Ribbon Day. "I support White Ribbon Day. I call upon my male colleagues to stand up and support this vital campaign," he declared.

As NALC leads, their endorsement of White Ribbon Day sends a powerful message to local councils and communities nationwide, encouraging dialogue and action to eliminate violence against women.
