NALC supports Local Council Clerk Week 2026

We are pleased to support Local Council Clerk Week, taking place from 8 to 12 June 2026, an initiative led by the Society of Local Council Clerks to celebrate the essential role clerks play in parish and town councils across England.

Clerks are central to the effective running of parish and town councils, providing professional advice, ensuring good governance, and supporting councillors to deliver for their communities. The week provides an opportunity to recognise their contribution and raise awareness of the vital work they undertake behind the scenes to keep local democracy functioning.

This year's theme, Empowering Change, lands at a moment when public life feels louder, faster and more pressured than ever, in a world full of uncertainties. Many people are stretched, expectations of public services are high, trust can be fragile, and communities are dealing with the everyday cost of keeping facilities open. In that landscape, parish and town councils remain the closest, most immediate form of democratic representation, and clerks support them in delivering.

We encourage parish and town councils to take part in Local Council Clerk Week by recognising and celebrating their clerks, sharing positive stories of their work, and engaging with the wider campaign. Even small acts of appreciation can help highlight the professionalism, dedication, and impact of clerks in local government.

The initiative also offers parish and town councils a chance to reflect on the importance of the clerk's role in supporting strong, well-run councils that are rooted in their communities and able to respond effectively to local needs.
