NALC adds its support to the local high street

The National Association of Local Councils (NALC) is encouraging all local (parish and town) councils, neighbourhoods and communities to enter The Great British High Street Competition. And you have only a month left!

The competition is looking for groups of local people to apply to be crowned as having the Best High Street in one of seven categories, which includes Best Village.

The competition is open to local partnerships, for instance town teams, Business Improvement District (BID), traders’ associations, local authorities, parish councils or community groups. They have also introduced a new rising star award for areas taking the first steps towards regenerating their high streets.

The winners of the seven categories get the chance to share an £80,000 prize pot, which includes digital training from internet giant Google for up to 100 retailers in each winning location.

Last year’s winner of winners, Belper, tell us winning has boosted footfall to their town and made local people feel proud of their town. Please get your entries in and help to showcase all your hard work.

The deadline for applications to the Great British High Street of the Year is 1 September 2015.
