Woodland Trust calls on parishes

People and trees are stronger together – but our nation’s woods and trees are facing unprecedented pressures. They risk being neglected, undervalued and forgotten. We need to act now before trees disappear from our story.

The Woodland Trust is leading more than 35 organisations, including NALC, from across all sectors of society in a call to create a charter that roots trees at the centre of national decision making, and back at the heart of our lives and communities.

The charter will be rooted in stories and memories. Have you got a treasured memory that wouldn’t have been the same without trees?

NALC is asking parishes to join the call today. Share you story today!

Be the roots of the charter - become a Charter Champion today.

We need parishes and people who will stick up for the trees and woods at the heart of their community.

Become a Charter Champion and, with our support, you will inspire your friends, colleagues, local communities, and neighbours to define the future for woods and trees in the UK.

There will be plenty of fun and exciting opportunities to get involved in this national project, and funding will be available from the Woodland Trust for local projects that reconnect people and trees now and in the future.

Orientation days for charter champions will take place around the UK in February 2016:

  • 4 February 2016, Edinburgh Botanical gardens, Edinburgh, Scotland

  • 6 February 2016, Garwnant Visitor Centre, Merthyr Tydfil, Wales

  • 10 February 2016, Crawfordsburn Country Park, Bangor, Northern Ireland

  • 19 February 2016, JG Graves Woodland Discovery Centre, Sheffield, England

  • 27 February 2016, Clissold House, London, England
