The National Association of Local Councils (NALC) is calling for planning authorities to consult with local (parish and town) councils prior to submitting plans for the design of homes.
This follows the publication of a new report, entitled Building More, Building Beautiful. The think-tank Policy Exchange has asked for greater community involvement in the housing design process.
The report has a range on recommendation, which includes:

Every local planning authority to produce a design and style guide in consultation with local residents

Local wishes to be incorporated into the definition of sustainable development

Accelerated planning permission for developments which have gained favourable views where residents have been consulted
