NALC announces the Star Council Awards 2021 winners
The National Association of Local Councils (NALC) revealed the winners of its 2021 Star Council Awards at an online ceremony on 8 October 2021.
The winners are:
- Council of the Year: Farnham Town Council, Surrey
- Councillor of the Year: Cllr Matthew Walsh, Princes Risborough Town Council, Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes
- Young Councillor of the Year: Cllr Michaella Biscomb, Kippax Parish Council, Yorkshire
- County Association Project of the Year: Yorkshire Local Councils Associations
- Clerk of the Year: Adam Keppel-Green, Knutsford Town Council, Cheshire
NALC’s Star Council Awards are the only awards in England to recognise and celebrate the local (parish and town) council sector’s contributions to their communities.
The theme of this year’s awards focused on projects that positively impacted communities in the context of COVID-19.
Cllr Sue Baxter, NALC chair, said: “Congratulations to all the winners and to those that made it to the final.
“These awards acknowledge what our sector can and is doing for its communities, day in, day out. However, this year, the awards were recognising local councils, councillors, clerks and county associations who had taken on the difficult task of helping their communities through an unprecedented time. COVID-19 challenged us all, and I’m proud to say that the local council sector stepped up and showed its true worth.
“We hope that what this year’s winners have shown – the capacity to inject real energy and a willingness to adapt – will inspire everyone in the sector to do the same, no matter the circumstances.”
