The LGiU and CCLA have announced the shortlist for the 2016 C’llr Achievement Awards including the Parish Councillor of the Year.
The seventh annual Awards are a national ceremony to honour the hard work of councillors from across the country that often goes unrecognised.
With nearly 200 nominations, a record amount for the Awards, competition was extremely tight this year. For the first time ever, there is a Parish Councillor of the Year category, supported by NALC.
Jonathan Carr-West, Chief Executive, LGiU said: “For the past seven years we have been showcasing the incredible work of councillors from across the country. Each year we are blown away by the calibre of entries, and this year is no different.
“The 2016 C’llr Achievement Awards shortlist is by far our best yet, surpassing all expectations. These councillors have tackled some of the toughest issues in the country and day in and day out are the ones that are making our communities better places to live. We are so pleased to honour their achievements and look forward to announcing the winners next month.”
Cllr Ken Browse, chair of NALC, said: “This is the first time the prestigious C’llr Awards have sought out councillors from the local (parish and town) council sector. This is a justified recognition of lots of these councillors who are community leaders and work often in close association with their principal authority councillors.”
Parish Councillor of the Year award category is supported by NALC.

The councillor who wins this category will:

have brought about positive change in their community as a direct result of their work

be a committed advocate for their constituents

have strong relationships with community groups and council partners
The awards ceremony will be held on 1 November 2016 in London.
