NALC publishes its quarterly activity report

We have published our quarterly activity report covering April to June 2026.

The report details progress on delivering our strategic plan, including updates on critical internal issues, parliamentary and government affairs, events, finances, media coverage, publications and legal advice. It features contributions from across all our teams, organised by theme.

Covering April to June 2026, it summarises the organisation's strategic direction and significant milestones during the reporting period. Key highlights include:

• Holding several governance meetings, including the Management Board, Smaller Councils Committee, National Assembly, Policy Committee, Scrutiny Committee and Larger Councils Committee.
• Holding our Annual Conference on 24 June and exploring how parish and town councils can play a leading role in the future of local government.
• Collecting feedback from attendees on whether events met their expectations, were engaging, and whether they would recommend NALC events to others. Event feedback scores were: Introduction to the Local Council Award Scheme (99%), Finance and Function: Powering up parish and town councils (76%), Planning Reform Unpacked: The planning shake-up and what it really means (78%), Study tour to Taunton Town Council (100%), NALC Annual Conference (78%).
• Presenting at an AI Masterclass, sharing the development of the online resource assistant, NORA.
• Responding to eight government consultations on national preparedness and resilience, planning committee reform, planning decisions, planning application fees, the New Towns draft programme, permitted development rights for onshore wind turbines, Martyn’s Law and fiscal devolution in England.
• Holding our Westminster Forum, where parliamentarians discussed the King’s Speech and the Representation of the People Bill. We also played a pivotal role in securing a significant new role for parish and town councils in England’s democratic landscape, after the government offered concessions during the final stages of the Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill.
• Circulating the Project Keystone survey, encouraging everyone who works in and with parish and town councils to have their say.
• Publishing a fully updated edition of The Good Councillor’s Guide to Website Accessibility, offering parish and town councils practical, up-to-date support to meet their local responsibilities and ensure their websites are accessible to all.
• Working with Buckingham Palace to recognise and celebrate the dedication of parish and town councillors, clerks and council staff from across England at three Royal Garden Parties.
• Celebrating parish and town councils that became accredited under the Local Council Award Scheme. One council achieved the Gold Award, seven achieved the Silver Award and four received the Bronze Award.
