The National Association of Local Councils (NALC) has today urged all local (parish and town) councils to sign up to the Tree Charter and become Charter Branches.

The Tree Charter sets out the principles for a society in which people and trees can stand stronger together. NALC has partnered with The Woodland Trust and the National Union of Students to promote these principles.

By signing up as a Charter Branch, you will receive a monthly newsletter, which includes practical ideas as well as highlighting the work local councils are doing with their green spaces.

The Tree Charter has an annual celebration, Tree Charter Day, which will be held on 30 November 2019. This year's theme is tree planting. The Woodland Trust can give your local council free trees to plant – find out more.
