The National Association of Local Councils (NALC) held its first meeting with Cllr James Jamieson, the new chairman of the Local Government Association (LGA).

Cllr Jamieson is the leader of Central Bedfordshire Council, is among the speakers at NALC's Annual Conference on 28/29 October and will be the cover star for the Autumn edition of NALC's flagship magazine, LCR.

Cllr Sue Baxter, chairman of NALC, said: "It was a productive first meeting with Cllr Jamieson. We spoke about how the two organisations can strengthen their relationship but also the relations between local (parish and town) councils and principal authorities. We agreed to work together on several areas such as sector-led improvement, sharing good practice, the Local Council Award Scheme, and standards and behaviours."

Cllr Jamieson, said: "It was good to meet with Cllr Baxter last week. This is a critical time for local government, and it is vital that we continue to work together, whether that is to promote our long term sector-led improvement offer, share best practice, or to lobby central government for the positive changes our communities need."
