NALC and SLCC meet to discuss partnership

Keith Stevens and Steven Trice

The National Association of Local Councils (NALC) and the Society of Local Council Clerks (SLCC) met at NALC’s office in London on 21 October 2022 to discuss the partnership between the two organisations.

Cllr Keith Stevens, NALC chair and Steven Trice, SLCC chair, emphasised their commitment to developing a strong and effective partnership to support councillors, clerks, and local (parish and town) councils in delivering for their communities. Likewise, they reaffirmed their support for councils to be members of NALC and their county associations and for clerks to be members of the SLCC and active in their county branches.

The SLCC national conference between 2 and 3 November 2022 will celebrate the organisation's 50th anniversary. Cllr Stevens and Mr Trice agreed to sign a protocol at this event to give effect to these aspirations and further develop the partnership.

Regular meetings will be held between the leadership of the two organisations to promote this partnership, as well as deliver on key joint projects. Among these include a workforce strategy covering retention and recruitment, pay and other terms of employment. The importance of good governance will continue to be championed by NALC and SLCC into 2023. As will the promotion of high standards of behaviour through the Civility and Respect Project.
