Local councils not subject to council referendum principles
Michael Gove MP confirmed on 7 February 2023 that local (parish and town) councils would not be subject to the council tax referendum principles in 2023/24.
Mr Gove, secretary of state for the Department of Levelling Up and Housing Communities (DLUHC), confirmed his statement to parliament on the final local government finance settlement.
Mr Gove also covered how the new settlement will allow additional grant funding for councils and social care.
