NALC celebrates International Women's Day

women

Today, 8 March 2023, the National Association of Local Councils (NALC) celebrates International Women's Day, a global day celebrating women's social, economic, cultural, and political achievements.

NALC applaud the amazing work women from across England in the local (parish and town) council sector are doing and their positive impact on their communities.

This year’s theme is to Embrace Equity. This stresses the importance of recognising that each person has different circumstances and allocating the resources and opportunities needed for an equal outcome. It is about fairness.

NALC's 2021 local elections report shows that 38% of councillors are women - NALC wants to ensure this continues to increase so that there is fair and equal representation. NALC’s Make A Change campaign encourages more women to stand as councillors.

In celebration of the day, NALC has created a video to highlight the amazing achievements of women who work in the sector.
