NALC comment on the Neighbourhood Planning Bill

NALC comment on the Neighbourhood Planning Bill

Cllr Ken Browse, chairman of NALC, responded: "I had a very positive first meeting yesterday with housing and planning minister, Gavin Barwell MP, which covered the important role of parish and town councils in communities and in neighbourhood planning.

“It is parish and town councils who are driving forward neighbourhood planning and making it such a success story, with 90% of plans led by parish and town councils.

“I very much welcome measures contained in today's Neighbourhood Planning Bill which give weight to plans earlier in the process, make it easier to modify plans and neighbourhood areas and require planning authorities to publish the support they will provide.

“There are still a number of areas in which the proposals could be strengthened to give communities more rights within the planning process, improve financial benefits from development and strengthen local democracy which we will be promoting as the Bill passes through Parliament.”
