Council Spotlight: Waltham Abbey Town Council

Waltham-Abbey-Town-Council

Waltham Abbey Town Council has an estimated population of over 20,000 with 11 elected councillors. The council is also accredited with the Quality Gold Award under the National Association of Local Councils’ (NALC) Local Council Award Scheme.

The council provides a range of local facilities and services for local residents which include the town hall, which caters for weddings, church, allotments, cemetery, museum, library, public open spaces and markets.

A recent project of the council is Waltham Abbey in Bloom. With twelve categories, the competition includes the best front garden, town garden, colourful public house, hanging basket and even best allotment. Nominations are made from members of the public and then the mayor of Waltham Abbey Town Council judges the competition and awards the prizes. The council also holds a craft market every third Wednesday of the month for residents to buy and sell their handmade/handcrafted items. Involving the public in such events brings the community together and reinforces the good work the council does for the town.
