Local MP meets with Littleport Town Council to discuss youth provisions

Member of Parliament (MP) for South East Cambridgeshire, Lucy Frazer MP, met with Littleport Town Council to explore ways of improving youth provision across the area.

Lucy Frazer MP visited Littleport Youth and Community Centre on 4 August 2023, where she spoke to council representatives about their work to engage the youth in the area. Principally through ThePORT Youth Group, which caters for approximately 150 young people between the ages of 10 and 17, with multiple sessions on offer during the week. They also discussed ideas for expanding provisions to more young people who are currently short of access to services.

The new centre was built using the grants of East Cambridgeshire District Council and Cambridgeshire County Council. Since the opening, the council has applied for other grants to provide an interactive sports wall, a youth cafe, and a well-being hub.

Lucy Frazer MP, stated, "It is vital that young people in local communities can develop healthy relationships and participate in activities that use their talents. That is why I have been so encouraged to see the work of councillors and staff at Littleport Youth and Community Centre make this happen. They make a real difference in this community."

Cllr Clive Webber, chair of Littleport Town Council, said: "Littleport Town Council were delighted that Lucy Frazer MP accepted the invitation to view our new youth and community centre and discuss the development of our well-being team. The meeting allowed our council representatives to explain the positive impact these projects have on our community, our drive to further improve local facilities for our residents, and our new projects in progress."
